The amount of energy saved through our initiatives is equal to 11 million gallons of gasoline, which equates to the energy consumed by about 12,300 average households per year. Electrical reductions from these projects will produce less carbon dioxide, which equates to the annual emissions from more than 10,000 average-sized cars.
Variable Volume Flow Control (VVC)
We control certain process fans based on the amount of air they need to move, instead of running them at a fixed speed. One of our plants saw an energy reduction of about 11.5% on the total electrical bill.
Lighting Upgrades
Lighting system improvements have saved more than 65 million kilowatt (kWh) hours per year — the total energy consumed by more than 2,200 households in a year. This also results in producing less carbon dioxide equivalent to the annual emissions from about 7,600 average-sized cars.
Electrode Boiler (High Efficiency Steam Generation)
One of our plants is implementing electrical steam generation, instead of natural gas.
Energy Efficient Oxidizers
Oxidizers are devices used to control emissions from printing processes. Oxidizers installed save the equivalent of 6.7 million gallons of gasoline every year, which equates to the amount of gas used annually by nearly 12,000 cars.
